Technical Visit to The Habitat Penang Hill
In conjuction with the 12th Asian Pacific Conference on Shell and Spatial Structures, IEM-USM Student Section has sent seven members to participate its technical visit to The Habitat Penang Hill. Participants visited two interesting and unique structures constructed at The Habitat Penang Hill. They are Curtis Crest (Tree Top Walk) and Langur Way (Canopy Walk).
Curtis Crest is a 13m high 360-degree viewing platform on Penang Island. It was named in honour of Charles Curtis, the first English superintendent of Penang Botanical Gardens. Curtis Crest has a total length of 100 meters at about 820m above sea level. It gives a different view of trees from top. Langur Way is an approximately 230m long bridge and it stands at 15m high at the highest point. It is named after the langur monkey found on Penang Hill. It is constructed by two 115-meter long stress ribbon bridges with a short connecting branch.
The consultants for both projects made a presentation and explanation to all participant on the design concept and construction processes.
